Annual Report published in the Gazette 1983 Issue No 6
PRESIDENT: Colonel DW Hargreaves
CHAIRMAN: JV Thomas Esq.
TREASURER: (Not Recorded)
HON. SECRETARY: J Roach Esq.
MEETINGS: Quarterly at Kingswood and Hanam Royal British Legion, Regent Street, Kingswood, Bristol. Committee meetings third Monday of each month at Kingswood and Hanham Royal British Legion.
1982 has proved to be a quiet year for the Branch with the exception of the usual main events throughout the year, namely Regimental Remembrance Sunday and Grenadier Day. Both these events were well supported by the Branch.
Regimental Remembrance Sunday was enjoyed by all when we were able to use the facilities and hospitality of Chelsea Barracks one again. It was pleasing to see so many serving Officers of both Battalions attending the event.
Grenadier Day proved to be a great success with our Cider stall being our biggest attraction with every member of the Association being eager to sample our wares.
Our shooting teams were very dissatisfied with the scoring on the ETR Range. As in other years the weather had a lot to do with success or failure of this event, but this time we were lucky and everyone had a great day.
Our skittles team still continues to prosper under the new guidance of Tony Lock and John Thomas and are looking forward to a successful season.
The rifle team still has its stalwart members attending regularly under the careful leadership of John Leaker, who tries to keep a very high standard.
Since my last report ea have learned with deep regret of the loss of members 2617277 F Sumerhayes and 261337 S Weeks and our deepest sympathy was extended to both families in their loss.
On Friday 2nd October 1982 the Branch held its Annual Dinner Dance at Ashton Court Mansions, Long Ashton Road, Bristol attended by a total of 96 members and their friends. Our very distinguished guest of Honour was Major General Sir John Acland KCB., CBE, who was accompanied by his wife. Representing the Regiment and Association was Major The Honourable Wigram, as he is one of our Branch Vice-Presidents.
A presentation of a Skittles Shield was made by our President to John Thomas, our Chairman, for the highest average score. The Wigram Shooting Cup for the best shot was presented by Lord Wigram to Sgt J Leaker. The evening was a greet success for the branch.
Before closing this report I would like to give my sincere thanks to the Branch President, Chairman and Committee and Members of the Branch for their continued support throughout the year and to the Lieutenant Colonel, General Secretary and Staff for their assistance.
