Annual Report published in the Gazette 1996

PRESIDENT: Captain J.W.H. Buxton

MEETINGS: General and Half Yearly at Kingswood and Hanam Royal British Legion, Regent Street, Kingswood, Bristol. As notified. Committee meetings Third Monday of each month.

SADLY I have to start my Annual Report on a sombre note with the sad loss of our Chairman, Graham George. Although a 'Mick' he was always regarded as a Grenadier for all his loyal support to the Branch. To his family we send our sincere condolences. Fortunately Tony Lock stepped into the breach to fill this post.

On a happier note, we were able to take a party of 42 members and their wives to Regimental Remembrance Sunday on 22nd May, where the sun shone bright once more.

On Grenadier Day on 9th July, 103 members and friends attended the great family day out, with the Branch making a complete ell-out at our Cider Stall. Considering that we were in competition with the beer tent next door, we did very well.

Our shooting team didn't fare too well this year, but there is always next year to have another crack.

On Saturday, 23rd September, 30 Branch members and their wives visited Nijmegen Company at Victoria Barracks, Windsor, where we all were well looked after by CQMS Wayne Orton and his staff, who made us very welcome. On touring the Barracks many of the older members were astounded by the accommodation provided for the modern soldier. after a visit to the Castle, we returned to Barracks, where we were well fed and watered before making our long trek home.

Friday, 1st December we were once again invited to join the Coldstream Guards Bristol Branch, at their Household Division Dinner Dance, at the Royal British Legion, Staple Hill, Bristol. The occasion was well attended by all members of the Household Brigade, so much so that it has become a regular event in the Branch Calendar.

Obituary: Sadly I have to report the death of members: G. George (Irish Guards); D. Howe; 22545321 T.G. Stoodley; 5177394 W. Jeffrey and 22545392 J. Taylor. To their families we end lour sincere condolences.

Finally my thanks to my President, Chairman and Committee for their constant help throughout the year, also to the staff at Regimental Headquarters for their advice.
