From: James White [mailto:jim@grenadier.eclipse.co.uk] Sent: Sunday, February 13, 2011 9:28 AM To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: Grenadiers Reunited Morning all, the newsletter will be early next week as im off gippoing weather permitting to the Cumbrian/Lancashire border for a week. Another mixed bag this week, and a big thankyou to all who replied and helped out lads from last week Received the following from D Money: 553774 ‘Lofty’ Wheadon who was a member of the Regimental Band from 1949 until 1962. He had previous service in the RAC Band of 13 years so his total army service was 26 and a half years. Lofty, who lived in Powys, died on Christmas Day aged 91. Lest we forget 261396 Bob Stratton, MM died at the age of 91 at Bexhill, Sussex. He was a member of the 5th Battalion and won his MM on the advance through Italy in June of 1944. His number appears almost to be a Regimental number but was in fact allocated to him in the RASC but he transferred to the Regiment in 1941. Lest we forget From G Hallam: Sadly I report the death of2628665 R. Cox who died on the 24.01.11. The funeral will take place at Wilford Hill Cemetary, Nottingham on Wednesday 9th.February at 9.40am. Lest we forget New members: 24555194 - Jerry Sanders 2nd Bn 2Coy 5Plt 1980-84 lives in the Trowbridge area looking to get in touch with Steve Clemo Received this from ex Maj Robin Reames, I know I've published it a few times but given his email request and having read about Sgt Dixon I ask that you comply and passed the word, I have again printed a facebook friendly copy at the end for you to copy and paste on your Facebook page: Jim, You have been kind enough in your weekly newsletter to tell readers about a survey being conducted of all current and serving Grenadiers’ attitudes towards The Association. It was something I was asked to do on behalf of the Regiment. There are just a few weeks left until the survey closes and though we have had over 1000 responses, there are many more Grenadiers’ views we still want. 273 of your readers have already gone on line to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MCRNXM2 or via www.grengds.com to complete the survey: I am sure there are more out there. A plea to your readers: please can everyone spread the word through their own network of Grenadier friends, email the links and encourage as many as possible to feedback their views? We want an Association that meets the needs of its members, encourages younger members to be engaged, utilises technology to communicate and provides a range of activities, events and services for all. I attended the funeral of Sgt Gary Dixon, a long-serving Inkerman Company stalwart, a few weeks ago. I was very moved by the huge attendance from Grenadier friends and former colleagues who came to pay their respects. Mark Hardwicke spoke movingly and reminded us all that there is a great network of support out there for those in need and we need to keep communications open. It was tragic that Gary Dixon did not feel he could, or did not know how to reach out to anyone of us there. If there is any good to come out a tragedy, I hope that it will be an even stronger and extended network of those who appreciate the family ties of the Regiment and Association and know it is there to help. The survey will only takes 5 minutes complete, but it will make a difference. FB Page version? FAO all Grenadiers RHQ want your views on how we, as Ex Grenadiers can stay in touch and take the Association foward pse fill out the online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MCRNXM2 From RHQ: In aid of the Colonels Fund: In the presence of HRH Prince Phillip a gala preview of "Betty Blue Eyes" 11 April 2011 at the Novello Theartre Aldwych London various tickets available contact LSgt Ellingham at RHQ for further info. From Bob Fallon On clearing out my attic I have come across a box of gazettes and other publications, these date back to 1932 when the regiment produced a book called "The ANNUAL REPORT".Having spent considerable time sorting them out I can say that I have almost every year's publication to the present day. Any one who would like one of these, including "The guards magazine", "The household brigade" magazine or "trooping the colour" magazine, please contact me on robert.fallon@talktalk.net and state your preferred issue.
