From: James White Sent: 03 October 2010 09:03 To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Subject: Grenadiers Reunited From Duggy Duggan: I'm afraid I'm the carrier of more bad news - Big Thomo ( Mark Thompson WO2 1st Bn, Herdsman, Boxer, Cowboy etc etc ) sadly passed away on Thu 30/09/10 he had been diagnosed with cancer recently it suddenly took an unexpected turn for the worse and took him away. There were several of us that went to see him including General Webb-Carter, Tim Brietmeyer, Skid, Nev Bould and myself and as anyone who knew him will agree he was a larger than life character who was a legend in his own lifetime and will be sadly missed by us all. Jim says: Im awaiting the funeral details, and thanks to all those others who also contacted me, When I get the details I will post them on facebook as a great many of his friends contacted me by that media. "Thommo" was a 1st Bn man who joined in the late 70s, a complete Regimental cabbage, he served in The Queens Company and was proud to be the CSM of the company later in life, he also was CSM of Nijmegan Company, did a stint at RMA and served in the Recce platoon. After the Army he served in the Security Industry working in several countries overseas. His big pastime was walking and his log of his walks in the Appalachian mountains can still be read on line. He will be missed by his family and the Regiment, and the many friends he made. A great story teller of real life events you could write a book or two on his experiences in life, often funny, always with a twist, great sense of humour, point ZULU will be sadly missed. Finally a bad one from Dave Langshaw: Niall and Ethan are two young lads from Shannon and they are lost in the Sahara desert. they're only desperate for water, but just as they think they're about to die, they chance upon an oasis where market day appears to be in full swing. They go to the first stall they see, and Niall asks if they can buy some water.' No, 'replies the Bedouin stall owner, 'I only sell fruit. Try the next stall.' So off they stagger to the next stall and this time Ethan asks for some water. 'Sorry,' says the merchant, 'But I only sell custard'. 'Custard! Custard?' splutter the two. Niall turns to Ethan and shouts angrily, 'What kind of flippin' place is this?' By now totally desperate, they go to the next stall, only to be told, 'Sorry, but I only sell jelly.' Hearing this, Ethan says to Niall and speaks through clenched teeth, 'Bejabbers, Niall - this is a trifle bazaar.'
